Zubair Ahmed
Zubair Ahmed is an entrepreneur with over 15 years of experience buying, selling, and renovating properties in the Capital District. Zubair is a proud graduate of Shaker High School and the Empire State College, where he focused his studies on business. He is a licensed real estate and insurance broker, and home inspector. And between 2014 and 2022, Zubair served on the Board of Trustees of the Islamic Center of the Capital District, including four years as President.
As ICCD President, Ahmed carried significant day-to-day responsibilities. He led the organization’s interfaith programs, Regional Food Bank-affiliated food pantry, and mentorship of young people. As the Center’s leader, Ahmed forged strong relationships with many business, elected, and law enforcement leaders. Ahmed gained particular insight into how local law enforcement ensures the safety and well-being of those who live, work and worship in Colonie.
Zubair attributes his values of community service, building bridges, and hard work to his parents, both immigrants from Pakistan. His father, Dr. Niaz Ahmed (1943-2011), practiced obstetrics and gynecology for 35 years in the Capital District. From Colonie Youth Court to Habitat for Humanity, Ahmed has spent countless hours serving the community as a lifelong Colonie resident. His 400+ hours with the Samaritan Suicide Prevention Hotline instilled an understanding of the importance of mental health care.
