Aseem Kumar
Candidate for Colonie Town Council
Aseem Kumar has worked for three decades as an engineer in the Division of Water at the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. Kumar also serves on the state committee for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is an active member of the New York State Soil and Water Conservation Committee.
Aseem received a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in India, where he was born. He later came to the United States with only $20 in his pocket. After college, he worked for a Fortune 500 company in India and later did coursework at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Kumar and his wife have two children who both attended the North Colonie Schools before studying at Harvard University.
Aseem serves on the Executive Board of the NYS Public Employees Federation. He was also previously elected as a board member of the Hindu Temple Society of the Capital District.
If elected, Aseem would be the only political independent on the Town Council, not having enrolled in either the Republican or Democratic Party. He would also be the only licensed engineer.
