Ansel Asch

District 21 Map

Ansel Asch is a lifelong Latham resident and 2019 Shaker High School graduate. This May, he will graduate from Cornell University with a degree in Political Science. Through his work with the Boy Scouts, Asch created a local species trail of trees on the Shaker High Campus. He also volunteered as an elementary school math tutor for years. At Cornell, he serves as President of the Student Union Board. And since graduating from Shaker, Asch has developed extensive political experience working in key positions on campaigns in Colonie and the Capital District.

Ansel has worked in local politics for five years where he has seen government up close. The experience has helped him develop the knowledge and skills necessary to excel at representing Latham & Loudonville in the County Legislature.

"A strong voice for fiscal responsibility & transparency"

Taxes & Spending:

As your County Legislator, Ansel will work to:

Reduce spending on the legislature. Fiscal responsibility must apply to everyone. He would vote to reduce the compensation of legislators.
Exempt sales tax on clothing. Nine counties plus New York City do not charge sales tax on clothing. Ansel believes we should join them.
Stop tax increases. If elected, he will oppose any measure to raise property or sales taxes.

Transparency:

Ansel strongly believes you have a right to know what your government is doing. Records most places simply post online require a FOIL request here.

As your County Legislator, Ansel will work to:

Make every county legislator's voting record public: Since last October, the Legislature has not posted records of votes or minutes of Legislative meetings. This information should be made available within days.
Disclose all county contracts: Ansel believes we should join the 30 counties in New York State that post details about all county contracts online.
