Position: Town Supervisor
Paula Mahan is serving as Supervisor of the Town of Colonie. Over the past six years, Paula has worked hard to restore fiscal responsibility, provide open government, create high ethical standards, and bring efficient government practices to Town government. Prior to entering her new position as Town Supervisor in 2008, she was a long-time educator in the North Colonie School District. While teaching at Shaker Junior High School, she served on numerous committees. She held the position of Chairperson of the Shaker Junior High Pupil Services Team for ten years. In addition, Paula mentored many students entering the field of education from several local colleges. She worked collaboratively with educators from Sage Graduate College, Siena College, the College of St. Rose and the State University at Albany. She was also an Adjunct Instructor at Sage Graduate College. Throughout her teaching career and in her current position as Supervisor, Paula is recognized as a true professional.
Paula holds a Master of Science in Education degree from Sage Graduate College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Russell Sage College. She is also the recipient of the Highest Academic Achievement Award from Russell Sage College.
Throughout the years, Paula has been very active in her community serving in various roles. She was the founder of Citizens Organized for Responsible Government, former PTA President of Forts Ferry Elementary School, and a member of the West Latham Neighborhood Association, the Albany County Democratic Ethics Committee, and the Pruyn House. She is also a member of the Albany-Colonie Chamber of Commerce, Colonie Chamber of Commerce, Albany Pine Bush Commission, Center for Economic Growth, Capital District Transportation Committee, Town of Colonie Veterans Memorial Committee, Town of Colonie Small Business Advisory Council, Pruyn House Board of Trustees, Town of Colonie Youth Advisory Board, and Town of Colonie Toys for Tots Chairperson.
Paula and her husband Joe have been residing in Latham for 40 years. They have two sons, Joseph and Paul.
