Bruce A. Hidley was born on February 20, 1958 in Albany, New York to the late Ted and Lois Hidley. Bruce was raised in the Delaware Avenue neighborhood with his brother, David, and his step-sister, Barbara.

Bruce attended Albany Public School 16 and graduated from Cardinal McCloskey High School. As Senior Class President, Bruce worked on the Merger Committee for Cardinal McCloskey and Vincentian Institute. Bruce earned an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Hudson Valley Community College.

Bruce has proudly served under the administrations of the Honorable J. Leo O’Brien, the Honorable Robert D. Carlson, and the Honorable Michael P. Manning. Previously, Bruce worked for the NYS Office of the State Comptroller as a Senior Auditor for over 10 years.

Bruce is a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and the NYS Association of City and Village Clerks. Bruce was awarded the designation of Registered Municipal Clerk in 1999.

Active in several community organizations and activities, Bruce currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Watervliet Civic Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to the youth of Watervliet.

Bruce is also a 34-year member of the Watervliet Elks Lodge #1500 where he previously served as Exalted Ruler (1991-1992) and District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler (2001-2002). Bruce was elected State President of the New York State Elks Association in 2007, becoming the first and only member of the Watervliet Elks Lodge #1500 to hold this distinguished leadership position. In July 2012 he was appointed to the Grand Lodge Area 1 Government Relations Committee.

Bruce is a member of the William F. Fennelly Division #1 Watervliet Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) where he has served as Treasurer since 2005. In 2001, Bruce was named Co-Hibernian of the Year. He also serves as President of the Albany County Division of the AOH. Due to his dedication, service, and leadership of the AOH, Bruce was named Co-Grand Marshall of the 2012 Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Bruce is a 3rd degree member of the Latham Knights of Columbus #3394, and a member of the Overseas Veterans Association of Watervliet and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #1954. Bruce is also a member of the Society of the Friends of St. Patrick of Troy and the North Albany Limericks.

During his leisure time, Bruce enjoys bowling in the VFW #729 bowling league and golfing in the Watervliet Pitch & Putt league where he serves as Vice President.

Bruce is a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Watervliet where he serves as a lector during Saturday Mass. Bruce enjoys spending time during the summer months at his camp in the Adirondacks.

Bruce and his wife, Helen (Moulton), recently celebrated their 30-year wedding anniversary.
